Doha: Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology (QS) hosted the 19th meeting of the GCC Accreditation Center (GAC) chaired by HE Assistant President of QS, Eng. Nawaf Ibrahim Al Hamad Al Mana in the presence of Their Excellencies heads of the Gulf standardization bodies and GAC members. The meeting discussed a range of topics on the agenda that included a report of the GAC Director General from January to March 2024, and endorsed the minutes of the 18th meeting of GAC, followed up on the implementation of its recommendations and discussed GAC General Administration regarding the internal regulations and final accounts for 2023, amending the organizational structure, and updating the GAC human resources system. HE Eng. Nawaf Al Mana said the agreement to establish GAC is unequivocally consistent with the objectives of the GCC unified economic agreement, achieves the economic integration and export development in the member states, in addition to advancing their economies through upgrading and su staining the accreditation measures to commensurate with the state-of-the-art international requirements and practices. The GAC crafts the general accreditation policies within the scale of the member states, determines the directions and advances the accreditation infrastructure through capitalizing on the resources available in the member states. Also, it provides accreditation services, such as certificates for conformity assessment bodies, along with any other bodies whose work requires accreditation in all member states. In addition, GAC offers training services within its purview, raises awareness on accreditation concept and its significance, supports accreditation relevant research and studies, conformity assessment activities, in addition to representing member states in regional and international forums.
