Doha Port received today the cruise ship "AIDAcosma" on its 11th call during the ongoing 2022/2023 cruise season. 5188 tourists and 1396 crew members were on board the ship.
Operated by cruise line "Aida Cruises" and flies the Italian flag, AIDAcosma made its first voyage to Qatar shores on January 16, 2023 and it can accommodate 6,600 passengers and a crew of 1,636 members.
The cruise sector in Qatar has contributed to strengthening Qatar's position as a leading destination for cruise tourism in the region. The sector supports the national economy growth by increasing tourism spending and providing more employment and business opportunities.
Qatar's cruise sector has recorded a significant growth since the launch of the 2021-2022 cruise tourism season, after it was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Doha Port received about 8,000 visitors in December 2022, mostly from Italy and Russia. The total number of visitors in the previous season reached 100,500 passengers.
The new passenger terminal at Doha Port accommodates up to 12,000 people a day. Its strategic location, minutes away from some of Doha's most popular attractions is also an advantage as it brings visitors to some of the country's popular attractions such as the National Museum of Qatar, the Doha Corniche and Souq Waqif.
