Earthquake of 5 Magnitude Strikes Indonesia’s Banda Sea

Doha: An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale struck the Banda Sea today, east of Indonesia.The European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said that the earthquake occurred 377 kilometers southeast of Ambon, Indonesia, at a depth of 142 kilometers.

According to Qatar News Agency, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake so far.

Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes, as it is located on the Pacific belt known as the Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
