Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan launched a scathing attack on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his recent speech to the US Congress, stressing that he feels "ashamed" of that speech on behalf of humanity. Erdogan said during his participation today in a forum with representatives of civil society organizations in the northeastern Turkish province of Rize: "A few days ago, we all witnessed those shameful scenes in the US House of Representatives. Frankly, we felt ashamed on behalf of humanity of what we saw there." The Turkish president considered that "rolling out the red carpet for someone like Netanyahu and applauding his lies constitutes a major mental lapse for America." He added: "When we see those in Congress applauding the killer of 40,000 innocent people, we are not only worried about humanity but also about our future," asking: "Who can guarantee that those who destroyed Gaza today will not turn their dirty eyes to Anatolia in the future?" Erdogan continued by saying: "Since Oc tober 7, Turkey has become the conscience of humanity by standing against injustice, and we have moved to support our brothers in Gaza without caring about what anyone says, and we are the country that sends the most aid to the Strip, and we have also brought the massacres committed by Israel to all the international forums in which we participated." He added: "Some political parties in Turkey say, the government should invite the Palestinian president to Turkey and have him speak in parliament, who said we did not invite him? Mr. Abbas did not come even though we invited him, he must first apologize to us separately." He added: "We invited him, but he did not come, we are waiting, let us see whether he will come or not, and whether he comes or not, we say what must be said in the name of the Palestinian people and our Palestinian brothers in all meetings and gatherings." Netanyahu gave a speech last Wednesday evening before the US Congress that lasted about an hour, in which he claimed that Israel "killed almost no civilians" in the city of Rafah, amid huge protests by thousands of supporters of Palestine in the streets of Washington demanding an end to the war and a halt to arming Israel.
