GCC Secretary-General Affirms Council’s Vital Role within UN

Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi emphasized the GCC countries' important and vital role within the United Nations system, which heavily relies on the various efforts and initiatives of the member states at regional and international levels. "This has made the Council countries a key partner that many countries and international organizations seek to strengthen cooperation with and establish strategic partnerships across various fields," he stressed. Following the conclusion of the coordinating meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council between Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Foreign Ministers of GCC States, held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, the Secretary General said that the GCC countries continuously work to expand and develop their international relationships to achieve mutual interests that benefit all parties involved, while also ensuring international security and peace. He explained that the purpose of this coordin ating meeting is to align efforts and roles for upcoming meetings between the member states and several regional and international countries and organizations. Their Highnesses and Excellencies discussed during the meeting a number of regional and international issues and exchanged views on topics related to strategic relations and dialogue between the GCC countries and global states and blocs, in addition to reviewing recent developments on both regional and international fronts.
