Brussels: Europe's Copernicus Climate Change Service warned Friday that global ocean temperatures are on the verge of reaching new record highs this month, signaling an accelerating climate crisis even before the anticipated arrival of the El Ni±o phenomenon.

According to Qatar News Agency, in its latest report, the observatory said average sea surface temperatures outside polar regions came close in April to the historic records logged in 2024, underscoring the persistent rise in planetary warming.

Deputy Director of Copernicus Dr. Samantha Burgess stated that it is only a matter of days before new ocean heat records are broken in May. She described the trend as deeply alarming.

Copernicus warned that the expected onset of El Ni±o in the coming months could further intensify global temperatures and fuel more extreme weather events worldwide.
