New york: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres criticized the parties involved in the current escalation in the Middle East, saying the fighting has "crossed the line that even leaders thought was conceivable."

According to Qatar News Agency, Guterres urged the US and Israel on Wednesday to end the war against Iran and called on Tehran to stop attacking Gulf states, stating the situation has "gone beyond all reasonable limits."

The UN Secretary-General warned that the war in the Middle East is "out of control," expressing his concern about the worsening humanitarian suffering caused by the conflict's expansion.

Guterres recalled his warning immediately after the outbreak of the war at the end of last month that "the fighting threatens a series of events that cannot be controlled. After more than three weeks, the war is out of control."
