Hebron - Ma'an - The mosques in Hebron urgently called on citizens to mobilize towards the Ibrahimi Mosque, which is being subjected to a new tragedy by the occupation authorities and settlers. Director General of Hebron Endowments, Ghassan Al-Rahbi, explained that the occupation authorities have begun to roof the courtyard of the sanctuary with iron and cement, which changes the features of the sanctuary, its structure and its external appearance. The courtyard of the sanctuary is located in the Ibrahimi area, and is the only outlet for the Ibrahimi Mosque. An informed source stated that the occupation authorities have been trying for many years to cover the courtyard, but the Ministry of Endowments and the Hebron Endowments Directorate rejected and repelled all of these attempts. The source added that the dramatic change in the position of the occupation authorities came as a result of political pressure from the settler parties, especially the Minister of Internal Security in the occupation government, the settler "Itamar Ben Gvir", and the Minister of Finance of the occupation government, the settler "Bezalel Smotrich", with the complicity of the Prime Minister of the occupation government, Netanyahu. Since Israel occupied the city of Hebron in 1967, successive occupation governments have rewarded settlers and granted them facilities in the Ibrahimi Mosque at the expense of Palestinians and Muslims. The opportunity to achieve the settlers' goals of transforming the purely Islamic Ibrahimi Mosque into a Jewish synagogue came after the horrific massacre that took place inside the mosque in 1994, which led to the martyrdom of 29 worshippers during the dawn prayer and the injury of more than 150 worshippers. At the time, the occupation government formed the Shamgar Committee to investigate the facts surrounding the massacre. This occupation committee decided to divide the sanctuary between the settlers and the Muslims, and rewarded the settlers by granting them large parts of the sanctuary to be used as a J ewish synagogue.
