Iraq and Syria discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in the field of tourism and antiquities

The temporary Chargé d'Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus, Yassin Sharif Al-Hujaimi, met with the Syrian Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Rami Martini, in the Ministry of Tourism building. According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries in the field of tourism and antiquities, in light of the increase in tourism activity. Future plans for its development and advancement, and the most prominent challenges facing it, were also reviewed. The two parties stressed the strong bilateral relations between the two countries. The Chargé d'Affaires explained the importance of improving the services provided at the Albu Kamal port, supporting the infrastructure for Iraqi travelers arriving by land, and cooperating with the Iraqi private sector. The minister praised the efforts of the Iraqi embassy in following up on the affairs of Iraqi tourists, and cooperating with the ministries of tourism and the interior. He also in structed the tourism directorates to form teams to supervise the provision of the best services, since Iraqis constitute the largest percentage of tourists in Syria. The two parties stressed the importance of starting to establish cooperation points in a memorandum of understanding to institutionalize cooperation and frame cooperation relations in the field of tourism.
