Baghdad: Iraq's oil production has seen a sharp decline, with current output dropping to approximately 1.4 million barrels per day, as announced by Minister of Oil Basim Khudair. This marks a substantial decrease from the 4 million barrels per day recorded before the recent unrest in the Middle East.
According to Qatar News Agency, Khudair addressed the situation at a press conference on Saturday, shortly after stepping into his role as Minister of Oil. He expressed hope for understanding and support from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the international community, emphasizing Iraq's urgent need to boost oil production levels.
Khudair detailed that the current production from key oil fields in Basra and Kirkuk stands at 1.4 million barrels per day. He also highlighted the Oil Ministry's focus on the energy sector in the Kurdistan Region, aiming to resolve long-standing issues between Baghdad and Erbil. This effort is intended to promote the development of the region's oil sector, aligning it with the broader national objectives.
Furthermore, Khudair assured that the Iraqi government remains committed to supporting the Kurdistan Region in optimizing its oil and energy resources. He underscored the importance of investing natural resources to benefit all Iraqis and advance the national interest.
