Head of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences Fadhel Al-Rahim, on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein, participated in the ministerial coordination meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement held in New York on the sidelines of the high-level week of the work of the United Nations General Assembly in its seventy-ninth session. Al-Rahim stressed, in a speech he delivered on behalf of Iraq, the need to enhance joint action among member states of the Non-Aligned Movement to confront the serious political and security challenges facing the region, in line with the goals and principles on which the movement was founded. He pointed to the pivotal role played by Iraq in alleviating crises and bringing viewpoints closer together to avoid conflicts and wars in the region. Al-Rahim also renewed Iraq's firm position towards the Palestinian issue, calling on the international community to take serious action to stop the ongoing aggression against the Palestini an people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. He condemned the recent attacks on Lebanon, noting that the expansion of the conflict represents a serious threat to international peace and security./ Source: National Iraqi News Agency
