Beirut: The Lebanese Cabinet has appointed Karim Saeed as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, securing the support of 17 out of 24 government ministers.
According to Qatar News Agency, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, speaking after the Cabinet session, stated that the Cabinet has decided Thursday to appoint Karim Saeed as Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon. He emphasized that the governor must adhere to the government’s financial policy, as outlined in the ministerial statement, including negotiating a new program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), restructuring banks, and developing a comprehensive plan aligned with international standards to safeguard depositors’ rights.
Karim Saeed, born in 1964, is the founder and managing partner of “Growth Gate,” a private investment firm. He has previously worked with major financial institutions, including HSBC Bank, and participated in privatization initiatives in several Arab countries.
Saeed studied law at Saint Joseph University in Lebanon and later at Harvard Law School in the United States. He also practiced as a corporate finance attorney in New York and is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
