Beirut: Lebanese Defense Minister Major General Michel Mansi has called on the sponsors of the ceasefire agreement to take decisive action to halt Israel’s ongoing violations and attacks.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement issued today, Mansi underscored the need to activate the monitoring committee established under the agreement, in coordination with the Lebanese Army. He praised the army’s unwavering commitment to its national duties, ensuring security and stability across the country.
The minister emphasized the importance of firmly countering any attempts to undermine the Lebanese state’s efforts to reinforce security, particularly along the southern and eastern borders. He reiterated Lebanon’s firm rejection of a return to the pre-ceasefire conditions that existed before November 2024.
Mansi affirmed that Lebanon continues to pursue a comprehensive approach, politically; diplomatically; and militarily, to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its citizens, and secure the integrity of its territory, including its northern, eastern, and southern borders.
The ceasefire agreement in southern Lebanon, which took effect on November 27, mandated the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese border villages and towns within 60 days. Following the expiration of the deadline, the Lebanese government extended the timeframe until February 18. While Israeli forces have withdrawn from most areas, five key border points remain under their control.
