According to Qatar News Agency, the Lebanese Minister of Public Works and Transport said that the relations between Lebanon and Qatar are historical and strong, with Qatar consistently providing support to Lebanon at various stages, reaffirming its unwavering stand by Lebanon.

He emphasized the importance of developing cooperation between the two countries through joint projects, especially in areas such as ports, airports, and the transportation sector, which would contribute to supporting economic development and improving infrastructure in Lebanon.

He said that the ministry’s priorities are focused on rehabilitating the infrastructure that was damaged by the recent Israeli aggression on Lebanon, with a particular focus on repairing roads, border crossings, and vital facilities such as ports and airports.

He revealed that the ministry is working in coordination with the relevant authorities to assess the extent of the damages and develop a plan for rebuilding what was destroyed by the recent Israeli aggression on Lebanon, within the available resources, and in cooperation with international donor organizations, including ongoing negotiations with the World Bank regarding the financing of rehabilitation projects valued at $250 million.

He stressed that the safety of Rafic Hariri International Airport is a top priority, noting that strict measures have been taken to ensure the security of the airport and passengers. These measures include enhancing coordination between the relevant security agencies, equipping the airport with the necessary technical capabilities, and improving inspection and surveillance processes to combat any smuggling attempts, he added.

He explained that the Lebanese government places great importance on the establishment of a second airport in Lebanon and considers it a priority. Currently, technical and economic studies are being prepared for the operation of Qleyaat Airport in northern Lebanon to ensure its operation according to the highest international standards, he noted.

He also considered that the move to establish a second airport in Lebanon is part of a strategic plan aimed at enhancing Lebanon’s capabilities in the aviation sector and supporting economic and tourism development.

He pointed out that the reform of the public transportation sector is a key part of the Lebanese Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s vision, noting that it is a strategic sector that contributes to reducing traffic congestion and alleviating the economic burdens on citizens.

In this context, he revealed plans to continue previous initiatives, including expanding the operation of public transport buses and organizing this sector to ensure more efficient and equitable services for all those working in it.
