Minister of Immigration: We are ready to support international steps and seek to move forward in implementing the Global Compact

The Ministry of Migration and Displacement, Evan Faeq, confirmed: 'The safe and dignified return, sustainable reintegration, and the return of competencies are among the main priorities of the Iraqi government, and are also in line with our commitment as a leading country in the Global Compact for safe, orderly, and regular migration.' The Minister of Immigration said, in a speech at the official opening of the activities of the Immigration Management Conference in Iraq, today, Saturday, in Baghdad: 'Immigration in Iraq has many aspects and challenges, as our dear country went through many years in which it suffered the scourges of wars and crises, the last of which was the terrorist organization ISIS, which led to Waves of immigration, during which Iraqis immigrated for various motives, but they caused us to lose several competencies and expertise from different sectors.' She added: 'The safe and dignified return and sustainable reintegration, and the return of qualified and experienced people to help deve lop our dear country, are among the main priorities of the Iraqi government and are also in line with our commitment as a leading country in the Global Compact for safe, orderly and regular migration,' stressing that 'the Migration Department ' is an important priority for the Iraqi government, and involves the work of many ministries and national and international stakeholders.' The Minister of Immigration praised the support provided by the International Organization for Migration, other international communities, and donors in implementing the National Plan for Migration Management in Iraq, which is a national framework for implementing the Global Compact for Migration in Iraq, and which was approved for the first time by the current government in the Council of Ministers through joint work with all executive institutions and the National Security Advisory through coordination, research and studies.' She explained, 'The successful completion of the second assessment of the migration governance indicators and the recently presented Global Compact policy pledges demonstrates the firm commitment of Iraq and the Ministry to implementing the Global Compact for Migration, and this conference will serve as a platform to review the progress made in the Global Compact for Migration, challenges, and explore opportunities through cooperation between governmental and non-governmental interests, where we can together develop innovative solutions, benefit effectively from available resources, and coordinate with the Kurdistan region.' She added, "We are ready to support all steps taken by international communities, donors, European countries, and others, in implementing this agreement and ensuring safe, orderly, and regular immigration that serves our people. The government and the Ministry of Immigration have achieved many progress in implementing this agreement, and we also seek more support from the international community to continue this implementation and we also need great cooperation through local organizations an d our governmental institutions.'
