The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the agricultural sector, seeks to enhance agricultural extension through the establishment of a digital farmers’ platform that enables farmers to obtain technical support and agricultural extension in a flexible and timely manner compared to traditional methods, in addition to various packages of agricultural support programs for plants, animals and fish. The agricultural sector is not aware of the importance of scientific research in developing and improving agricultural production, raising its economic value and achieving self-sufficiency.
Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs at MME said: The plans and programs of the agricultural sector are in line with the aspirations of the food systems summit, which aims to enhance agricultural production with a positive impact on nature, and this is represented in promoting modern agriculture to reduce water depletion as well as reducing the use of pesticides by encouraging organic agriculture and switching to green fodder production using treated water and stopping the use of groundwater to reduce its depletion, in addition to organic fertilizer production projects that convert animal waste into fertilizers, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions and reduces the effects of climate change.
