MoPH Hosts Workshop on Licensing for Private Sector Medical Doctors

Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) recently organized a workshop titled ‘Your License, Your Responsibility’ aimed at medical doctors working in the private and semi-government sectors, as well as contact officers from private and semi-government healthcare facilities. The event took place at the Itqan Medical Simulation and Innovation Centre at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City.

According to Qatar News Agency, the workshop aimed to inform doctors about the importance of obtaining and maintaining a professional license. It detailed the necessary steps and requirements for acquiring and renewing a license, as well as the criteria for obtaining surgical privileges. Additionally, it highlighted the consequences of non-compliance with licensure requirements and covered the needs for continuous professional development.

The session included discussions on important topics like the procedures and requirements for services provided by the Department of Healthcare Professions of the Ministry of Public Health. These included requests for changing workplaces, complying with continuous professional development requirements to renew a license, and the mechanisms for achieving these goals.

Jawaher Al Ali, Director of Registration at the Department of Healthcare Professions, stated that the workshop is part of the ministry’s continuous efforts to raise awareness among healthcare practitioners. She underscored the necessity for medical doctors to obtain and regularly renew their professional licenses to ensure the safety and quality of healthcare services in Qatar, emphasizing that practitioners are responsible for their licensure.

The Accreditation Section of the Department of Healthcare Professions presented a comprehensive overview of the National Medical Education and Continuous Professional Development Program during the workshop. The program aims to advance the healthcare sector by providing high-quality healthcare services to all patients in Qatar, aligning with the National Health Strategy and Qatar Vision 2030.

It was also noted that participation in medical education and continuous professional development programs is mandatory for all healthcare practitioners in Qatar as a condition for renewing their professional licenses.

The Department of Healthcare Professions of the Ministry of Public Health accredited the workshop as part of Category 1 continuing medical education and professional development activities, engaging approximately 800 healthcare practitioners over the course of two days.
