N. Korea Launches Trash Balloons Towards S. Korea

North Korea launched on Sunday balloons carrying rubbish towards South Korea. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said that tracking the balloons' path showed that they were heading towards the northern part of Gyeong-gi Province surrounding the capital, Seoul, and advised residents not to touch those balloons, and to inform the military or police authorities near them. Since late May, North Korea has sent more than 2,000 balloons carrying rubbish to its southern neighbor, in response to North Korean defectors sending anti-Pyongyang leaflets towards the North. South Korea resumed, last Thursday, propaganda broadcasts over loudspeakers towards the North in response to its repeated launching of trash balloons into the South. The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff clarified on Friday, that it would continue the broadcast, and warned of taking more forceful measures, such as expanding the broadcast into a large-scale campaign, in the event of additional provocations.
