New Democracy Party Wins Greek Parliamentary Elections

The New Democracy party, led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, won the Greek parliamentary elections held on Sunday, in the runoff round to elect a new parliament in the country.

The New Democracy party was leading with 40.5% of the vote and 158 seats in the 300-seat parliament. The Syriza party came in second place with 17.84% of the votes and 47 seats.

According to the official Greek news agency, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will take the constitutional oath on Monday as the Prime Minister before the President of Greece, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis won the elections held on May 21 but did not secure a sufficient majority to form a new government without building alliances. This prompted him to resort to another round of voting and call upon 9.8 million voters to cast their votes again.
