Manama, Yasser Ghanem Shaheen, Secretary-General of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), receives Ishraq bin Al Zain, Coordinator of the Training and Education Unit at the United Nations Centre for Training and Documentation in Human Rights for Southwest Asia and the Arab Region. The Secretary General highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships between the institution and United Nations mechanisms, particularly in the areas of training and human rights education. He affirmed the need to continue developing training programmes to address emerging challenges in the field, which are essential for raising awareness and enhancing competencies. During the meeting, Al Zain provided an overview of the centre's work and objectives, including its role in offering training, education, and documentation programmes, as well as knowledge management initiatives related to human rights. They also discussed ways to enhance future cooperation in training, knowledge exchange, and organising workshops aimed at promoting human rights culture across various segments of society. The meeting took place alongside a training programme organised by the NIHR, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bahrain. The programme focused on human rights standards and principles for journalists and media professionals, as part of the institution's strategy to promote human rights awareness and foster strong relationships with stakeholders and human rights defenders.
