The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, took part in the annual coordination meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, held in New York today, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

In his speech, the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Political Affairs affirmed the keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the directives of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, and Prime Minister, to support the goals of the OIC in strengthening solidarity and protecting the interests and rights of the Islamic world, most prominently the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative and international legitimacy resolutions.

He underlined the Kingdom’s concern for the security and stability of Islamic countries, and the Kingdom’s solidarity with the efforts aimed at establishing security, stability and sustainable development, ending wars and conflicts, combating extremism and terrorism, rejecting intolerance and hatred, and the importance of devoting the values of tolerance, coexistence and human brotherhood and dialogue for a safe and sustainable environment across the world.

The meeting, co-chaired by Mauritanian Foreign Minister, Mohamed Salem Ould Marzouk, and OIC Secretary-General, Hissein Ibrahim Taha, discussed the achievements of OIC in facing common challenges, and stressed the support for Islamic issues, especially the Palestinian issue, combatting Islamophobia, and the condemnation of the burning of copies of the Holy Qur'an by a number of extremists, calling it an unacceptable provocation to Islam and a clear violation of international covenants.
