Doha: The Permanent Population Committee (PPC), in collaboration with Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan), is set to organize an event, on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, to mark the Qatar Population Day, which is observed in October each year. The event features a symposium under the theme of elderly in the State of Qatar: a better future through sustainable care and highlights health and socioeconomic challenges facing the elderly in Qatar, in addition to discussing strategies and policies that can be endorsed to enhance the care for elderly and improve their life quality. The symposium is an opportunity to share expertise among professionals and experts in the areas of health and social care, thus offering a chance for participants to learn the state-of-the-art techniques and effective practices to care for the elderly. It strives to lay out methods of achieving financial sustainability in health care provision and ensuring a sustainable infrastructure that meets the elderly's needs in the lon g run. In addition, the event focuses on presenting successful models derived from local and global experiences in the area of caring for the elderly, something that would direct future policies and achieve a significant welfare for this crucial segment. Members of PPC and Ehsan are due to participate in the Qatar Population Day, alongside members of groups following up on the implementation of the population policy of the State of Qatar, as well as those who engage in preparing this policy and the third National Development Strategy of Qatar. Also participating in this event a host of ministries and authorities relevant to population issues, universities, institutes, thinktank and applied centers, in addition to representatives of the civil society organizations and a handful of regional partners.
