Qatar Welcomes Efforts Made to Ensure Accountability for Those Responsible for Violations Against Syrian People

The State of Qatar welcomed all efforts made to cease the state of impunity and ensure accountability of all those responsible for the violations committed against the Syrian people. This came in the State of Qatar's statement delivered by First Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Abdullah Al Suwaidi during the Interactive Dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic, within the framework of the 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. Al Suwaidi said that the crimes, grave violations of human rights, and the major deterioration of the humanitarian, social and economic conditions that the Syrian people have been exposed to since 2011 will not change unless by stopping the prolonging of the conflict on the basis of "no victor and no vanquished", and by showing political will and exert more efforts and pressure to reach a political solution based on the Geneva Statement and Security Council Resolution 2254 to meet Syrians' legitimate aspirations who have struggled and sacrificed a lot to reach them and preserve Syria's sovereignty, unity, independence and territorial integrity. He emphasized the importance of resuming the Constitutional Committee's work and pressuring the Syrian regime to participate effectively and positively, as well as the importance of making progress regarding the file of missing persons, detainees, arbitrarily detained and forcibly disappeared persons for its great priority and importance in reaching a sustainable political solution and achieving justice and fairness for all victims of these violations. The First Secretary at the MOFA expressed his gratitude to the members of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic for the oral update provided on the human rights situation in Syria and for the efforts made in investigating and documenting the violations committed against the brotherly Syrian people.
