Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha: In their editorials on Thursday, Qatari newspapers highlighted the directives issued by the Cabinet yesterday, pursuant to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s orders, to prepare and implement a series of economic initiatives to support the private sector and increase its contributions to the national economy.

The newspapers also noted the diplomatic success achieved by the State of Qatar after it won membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2025-2027, with the support of 167 countries, stressing that this achievement recognizes and appreciates Qatar’s commendable record in respecting human rights both domestically and internationally.

In its editorial, Al-Watan newspaper noted that numerous decisions have been issued to support the private sector to enable it to contribute to economic growth and enhance sustainable development, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath.

It added that through a government initiative, the process of strengthening the partner
ship between the public and private sectors continues. Additionally, the private sector is being provided with the necessary support to fulfill its designated role by harnessing all required resources and overcoming obstacles to achieve sustainable development, Al-Watan added.

The newspaper noted that based on the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani the Cabinet issued instructions on Wednesday to prepare and implement a series of economic initiatives to support the private sector and increase its contributions to the national economy, adding that these initiative include loan waive-offs for Qatari companies benefiting from the National Response Guarantee Program (NRGP), which was established to support the private sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with initiatives to grant short-term financing for Qatari companies, that previously benefited from the NRGP, for working capital.

Al-Watan concluded by emphasizing that the Cabinet’s announcement confirms that the Amiri generosity i
s a step to support private sector companies in facing the economic repercussions arising from the measures taken to combat the pandemic, which represents the latest indication of the leadership’s keen interest in this sector to optimally elevate it for the benefit of our economy and sustainable development plans.

Meanwhile, Al-Sharq newspaper said that Qatar winning membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2025-2027, with the support of 167 countries during the elections held yesterday at the UN General Assembly in New York, reflects the broad international appreciation for Qatar’s strong commitment to protecting and promoting human rights at both national and international levels.

The editorial noted that Qatar has adopted numerous legislative measures related to the promotion and protection of human rights, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which includes important pillars that address key human rights issues in areas such as education, health, the environment, labor rights, women
‘s empowerment, and children’s rights.

Al-Sharq added that this achievement of Qatar being elected to the UN Human Rights Council, crowns the continuous efforts made by Qatar to promote the values of justice, equality, and human rights. It also reflects the confidence in Qatar’s constructive role within the Council, which places a significant responsibility on the country to continue its commitment to working with all member states to advance various human rights areas, enhance dialogue, and cooperate to find effective solutions to global challenges.

Al-Sharq concluded its editorial by stressing that Qatar will continue its active role in promoting the Council’s missions, which aim to achieve global respect for all values and principles of human rights and fundamental freedoms without discrimination, as well as effectively addressing human rights violations occurring around the world.
