Doha: Qatari newspapers focused on a variety of topics in their Thursday editorials, most notably HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s patronage of the graduation ceremony of the 12th batch of cadets of Al Zaeem Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Attiyah Air Academy at the academy’s headquarters in Al Udeid Air Base on Wednesday morning.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers also noted the global praise from various countries and organizations for the mediation efforts made by the State of Qatar in reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and securing the exchange of Israeli detainees and Palestinian prisoners, which reflects the status that Qatar enjoys on the global level.
The newspapers addressed Qatar’s victory in the chairmanship of the Memory of the World Committee for the Arab region, which comes as confirmation and recognition of its pioneering efforts to protect Arab heritage and culture and its interest in highlighting the rich Arab cultural heritage.
For its part, Al-Watan newspaper confirmed that Al Zaeem Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Attiyah Air Academy made strides in the field of theoretical and practical training, and sets its sights on its outputs being fully compatible with the needs of the Qatari Armed Forces in general, and the air force in particular, in the field of fighter and aviation and support air specialties. Since its establishment, the academy has been able to prepare its graduates professionally and scientifically. The years of study were a source of knowledge, in harmony with the requirements of the era and modern technology in the fields of aviation.
The newspaper highlighted the academy’s twelfth batch of qualified graduates, under the patronage of HH the Amir, who honored the outstanding graduates and watched the air show which kicked off with Qatar Amiri Air Force aircraft, including F-15s, Rafales, Typhoons, alongside Al Zaeem Air Academy’s H-125 and Super Mushshak aircraft.
Concluding, Al-Watan also highlighted the number of academy graduates, which amounted to 119 cadets from Qatar, Jordan, Tunisia, Somalia, and Rwanda, adding that the presence of graduates from friendly countries reflects the capabilities the academy possesses and confirms the status that Qatari security and military colleges enjoy on the global level.
In another matter, English-language newspaper The Peninsula stressed that the ceasefire agreement recently reached in the Gaza Strip, and the efforts to form a national government in Syria, constituted steps towards enhancing stability in the region after more than 15 tumultuous months.
The paper also referred to a speech by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where His Excellency expressed hope that the ceasefire agreement in Gaza would represent a first step towards enhancing stability in the region and stressed the importance of the two parties’ commitment to implementing the deal. He stressed that the two parties must show seriousness in committing to enforcing this deal.
His Excellency also explained during another session in the forum on developments in Syria, that the new Syrian administration is taking the right steps, although it needs support to achieve stability, protect state institutions and meet the basic needs of the Syrian people, the paper added. His Excellency further expressed optimism about the future of the Middle East, and pointed out that the recent positive developments came after a year full of challenges and difficulties during 2024.
The Peninsula concluded its editorial by saying that it is imperative to build on the positive momentum and work toward an inclusive national government in Syria that can rebuild the country after years of civil war. It is also vital to uphold the ceasefire agreements in Gaza and for the global community to move in a serious manner regarding a comprehensive political solution to the conflict through the realization of the two-state solution.
