Qatar’s Health Sector: A Model of Excellence and Future Ambitions

Doha: Al-Arab newspaper affirmed in its Tuesday editorial that the State of Qatar, under the guidance of its wise leadership, pays great attention to the health sector, making it one of the best in the world. The success of the first and second National Health Strategies 2011-2016 and 2018-2022 was the result of meticulous planning, which reinforces optimism about achieving more successes through the third National Health Strategy 2024-2030. The third strategy focuses on strengthening the community role in spreading health awareness and education, and enabling individuals to adopt healthy behaviors that contribute to reducing the spread of non-communicable diseases, especially obesity and diabetes.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Arab noted that HE Minister of Public Health Mansoor bin Ebrahim bin Saad Al Mahmoud affirmed during the Shura Council session that the National Health Strategy 2024-2030 is based on three core priorities: improving public health and wellbeing, enhancing patient experience and healthcare services, and strengthening the efficiency and resilience of the healthcare system. Concluding its editorial, the newspaper praised the achievements of the health sector over the past years, within the framework of Qatar National Vision 2030, expressing its hope for further successes and appreciating the efforts of all those working in the health sector.

On the international front, Al-Watan newspaper reported that US President Donald Trump's comment on the Iranian response seemed to open the door to military confrontation options that Washington and Tehran had sought to avoid, but it did not close the door to negotiations completely, leaving room for mediators to move again based on the new data. The newspaper added that the US President has not decided whether he intends to continue negotiations or will choose military action, in addition to his handling of mediations over timeframes, which leads to the likelihood of the continuation of the diplomatic track despite the escalating pressures pushing towards the military option.

Concluding its editorial, Al-Watan stressed that the danger of resuming hostilities is not limited to its effects on the warring parties, but extends to the already suffering global economy, suggesting that the door remains open for a new diplomatic move that would allow for rounding the corners to reach a solution acceptable to all.

On the domestic front, The Peninsula newspaper said in its editorial that the opening of the GCC Games Doha 2026 is more than another sporting event on Qatar's busy calendar. It reflects the growing role of sport as a powerful force for unity, cooperation, and regional pride across the Gulf. At Al Shaqab, where leaders, officials, and athletes gathered under the patronage of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, the atmosphere carried a strong message about the future of Gulf cooperation. In a world facing uncertainty and rapid change, events like the GCC Games demonstrate how sport can bring nations and people together through shared values and healthy competition.

The newspaper emphasized that Qatar's role in advancing regional sport is especially significant. Since hosting the 2006 Asian Games, Doha has steadily established itself as one of the world's leading destinations for major sporting events. The venues selected for the GCC Games 2026, including Aspire Dome and Hamad Aquatic Centre, represent years of planning and investment aimed at creating world-class facilities for athletes across the region. Doha 2026 therefore stands as more than a sporting tournament. It represents the continued growth of Gulf cooperation and highlights how sport has become one of the region's strongest platforms for friendship, opportunity, and unity, The Peninsula concluded.
