Qatar’s Support for Syria and Advocacy for Palestinian Rights Highlighted in Local Editorials

Doha: In its editorial, Al-Arab daily emphasized Qatar’s ongoing efforts to support Syria across various fields, focusing on humanitarian and developmental areas. These efforts aim to meet the aspirations of the Syrian people for a dignified life and the establishment of a state governed by institutions and the rule of law, while also considering political and diplomatic dimensions. The editorial mentioned a recent meeting between HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and a high-level Syrian delegation, where discussions centered on enhancing Qatari humanitarian aid and bilateral cooperation. The meeting also addressed recent developments in Syria and other mutual concerns.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Arab reiterated Qatar’s consistent stance on Syria, advocating for the preservation of Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The editorial highlighted Qatar’s commitment, driven by strong fraternal ties and moral obligations, to stand by the Syrian people and support their humanitarian needs.

In a separate issue, Al-Raya newspaper criticized the Israeli occupation forces for systematically targeting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). The newspaper argued that Israel’s actions are part of broader efforts to displace Palestinians by restricting access to essential resources in occupied territories. It warned of worsening conditions in Gaza due to ongoing Israeli aggression and new discriminatory laws, which could have severe humanitarian and political repercussions.

Al-Raya underlined the urgency for regional and international solidarity to halt Israel’s aggression against Palestinians and stressed the need for increased support for UNRWA’s mission. The editorial condemned Israel’s actions and called for accountability, accusing Israel of continuing its aggressive policies against Palestinian existence.

Meanwhile, The Peninsula reported on Qatar’s intensified focus on a circular economy as part of its sustainability efforts. Highlighting the success of waste recycling during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the newspaper noted the production of substantial amounts of electricity and fertilizers from waste by the Domestic Solid Waste Management Centre in Mesaieed. The Investment Promotion Agency Qatar (IPA Qatar) sees significant investment opportunities in waste management, projecting substantial economic, social, and environmental benefits as part of Qatar’s National Vision 2030.
