Qatar Central Bank (QCB) announced in a tweet, through its official account on Twitter, that it will soon launch Himyan card, the first prepaid national payment card with a Qatari brand and the first of its kind in the State of Qatar.
QCB explained that the card is similar to electronic payment cards issued by global payment networks. The name Himyan comes from the bag of money used by merchants in the past.
The Bank outlined that this comes as part of the efforts to develop electronic payment services and enhance financial inclusion in the country.
QCB identified a number of card features, noting that it does not require a minimum balance, supports contactless transactions, and provides lower costs of processing payment transactions for card issuers, acquirers, and merchants.
