Doha: Qatar Tennis, Squash, Badminton and Padel Federation (QTSBF) Secretary General Tariq Zainal praised the great success of the Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2025, which concluded Saturday with American Amanda Anisimova winning the title.
According to Qatar News Agency, following the award ceremony held at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, Zainal said that Anisimova deserved the win after her impressive performance during the final match.
The QTSBF Secretary General said that this edition of the tournament witnessed significant surprises, especially with the early exits of Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the world number one, and Polish Iga Swiatek, the defending champion and world number two.
He added that such surprises reflected the strength of the tournament this year, which saw the crowning of a new champion, with Anisimova winning her first final in Qatar, while Ostapenko lost her second final in the tournament.
Zainal said that this edition has had the best turnout ever, with the highest ticket sales in the tournament's history, which also coincided with the tournament upgrading to a WTA 1000 event. The QTSBF Secretary General said that such accomplishments serve as great motivation to continue to develop the tournament further.
For his part, Tournament Director Saad Al Mohannadi expressed his immense happiness with the excellent running of the tournament and the distinguished performance it featured, expressing pride at the great success achieved on all levels, with Qatar's usual outstanding hosting, and thanking all parties that contributed to this.
Al Mohannadi also congratulated Amanda Anisimova for her well-deserved victory.
