San Marino - Ma'an - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of San Marino, Luca Beccari, confirmed that his country will raise the Palestinian diplomatic representation, as a basic step towards moving towards recognizing the State of Palestine. Beccari's statements came during a bilateral meeting he held on Thursday with the Palestinian Ambassador to Italy, Abeer Odeh, at the Peji Palace - the headquarters of the San Marino Foreign Ministry. During the meeting, Beccari addressed the decision of the Parliament of San Marino to adopt the Palestinian diplomatic representation, which confirms the existence of a representation of the State of Palestine in the Republic of San Marino, explaining that it will be upgraded to diplomatic representation, as a basic step towards moving towards recognizing the State of Palestine. He pointed out that his country's parliament stressed in its decision the need to continue support within the framework of the United Nations to recognize the State of Palestine as a f ull member state in the General Assembly, and stressed the need to stop the war of extermination to which the Palestinian people are being subjected in the Gaza Strip and to continue pressure to activate humanitarian corridors. Beccari also briefed Ambassador Awda on the historic position taken by the Republic of San Marino in the halls of the United Nations by voting in favor of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. Bekari stressed the importance of the meeting with Ambassador Awda, which represents the first step towards establishing diplomatic relations between the two friendly countries, noting that establishing diplomatic relations could precede recognition of the State of Palestine, which will take place through a series of rapid steps. He added, "There is a strong will to recognize the State of Palestine, not only by Parliament, but by the government as well." Source: Maan News Agency
