The first events of the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) 2021/2022 season kicked off with the two auctions organised by QREC on Friday, 24 September, for show horses and on Saturday, 25 September, for racehorses. Held at the indoor arena of the Qatar Equestrian Federation, the two auctions were marked by their excellent organisation and the intensive preparations, which had been initiated by QREC since the announcement of the two auctions and the completion of entries last month.

50 lots in the Show Horse Auction and MONIA’T AL GHEED gets highest bid

50 Purebred Arabian horses came up for sale, which attracted many buyers, given the international standing of Qatar as a leader in Purebred Arabian horse show discipline and the prestigious titles landed by Qatari-owned horses in the world’s top shows.

23 lots were sold. Khalid Ahmed Al Shaibi’s filly MONIA’T AL GHEED (QR) (Marwan Al Shaqab x Vitoria LM) got the highest bid of QAR 40,000 and was purchased by Mohammed Hamad Al Naimi.

51 Arabians and 44 Thoroughbreds on display in the Racehorse Auction

Highest price tags for JAZALAH and DOHA SURPRISE

The huge turnout continued on the following day with the Racehorse Auction. The high standard of Qatar’s racing both at Al Rayyan and Al Uqda racecourses added to the interest of buyers. The Auction was an excellent opportunity to meet the different needs of purchasers, especially with the variety of the Purebred Arabian and the Thoroughbred lots on display.

The Arabian with the top sale honours had a QAR 250,000 price tag and she was Umm Qarn’s mare JAZALAH (FR) (No Risk Al Maury X Haifaa). She was purchased by Khalifa bin Sheail Al Kuwari. Her Thoroughbred counterpart was Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi’s gelding DOHA SURPRISE (QA) (Zoffany X Winged Dagger). He was purchased by Al Ghazali Stud for QAR 60,000.

Local and GCC presence

In addition to the large turnout of local owners and trainers, the presence of owners and trainers from the GCC countries, especially from Oman, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, was remarkable, which reflects their interest in the show horses and the racehorses of Qatar.

Start of Season

The two auctions provided the best start for the 2021/2022 season and were held at an ideal time offering owners and trainers an excellent opportunity to buy and sell according to their respective needs and based on the quality of the lots and their records. They offered a variety of options for owners and trainers to enhance their preparations for the new season.

It is worth mentioning that the 2021/2022 season will feature other auctions and the nearest of these will be the Auctions for Two-Year-Olds, which will take place on Saturday, 16 October and its entries were actually closed last Thursday.
