Sudanese and South Sudanese Leaders Confer Over Nasir Developments

Khartoum: Sudanese Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan engaged in a phone conversation with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit to deliberate on the evolving situation in South Sudan, particularly following recent incidents in Nasir.

According to Qatar News Agency, during the discussion, Al Burhan expressed Khartoum’s commitment to supporting Juba in its pursuit of peace and stability. He also updated President Salva Kiir on recent developments within Sudan, notably the victories achieved by the Sudanese Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Nicholas Haysom issued a warning regarding the deteriorating situation in the country. He indicated that South Sudan is on the verge of renewed civil war, citing indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Nasir, Upper Nile State. These attacks have led to significant casualties and injuries, displacing at least 63,000 people due to the worsening conditions.
