Muscat, The International Conference on Oral History, organized by Wathiqat Watan (Homeland Document) Foundation and Omani National Records and Archives Authority, kicked off Monday in the capital Muscat. The conference is being held at the conference hall of Grand Millennium Hotel, under the title 'International Conference on Oral History… The Concept and Experience in Arab World.' About 300 researchers, specialists in documentation and historical research from several countries participates in the conference. Chairman of National Records and Archives Authority, Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Dhawyani, stressed that the oral history is a fundamental factor in understanding the reality and preserving the historical events. He hailed the cooperation between Omani National Authority cadres and the Syrian 'Wathiqat Watan' Foundation in this field. The Syrian delegation, headed by Board of Trustees Chairman of Wathiqat Watan Foundation, Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban, comprises researchers from several Syrian institutions. In her speech, Dr. Shaaban underscored the necessity of Arab cooperation in the experience of documenting history in order to preserve the national identity and prevent the falsification of facts.
