The Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, received a phone call from Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen.

During the call, Minister Fuad Hussein expressed the condemnation and denunciation of the government and people of Iraq for the burning and desecration of the Holy Qur’an and the Iraqi flag in Denmark, stressing that freedom of expression should not affect other freedoms and that such actions contradict human dignity and rights, calling on the Danish government to prevent the recurrence of these abusive acts and repeated offending Islam and the Holy Qur’an, and to confront such provocative acts, which incite violence and feed hatred, racism and extremism, and which cannot be included within the scope of freedoms, welcoming the decision of the United Nations General Assembly to encourage dialogue and tolerance between religions and cultures in the face of hate speech.

Hussein stressed the keenness of the Iraqi government and people on the security and safety of the diplomatic missions residing in Baghdad, including the Danish mission, stressing respect for freedom of expression in accordance with constitutional and legal standards and in a way that does not constitute an offense to religions or freedom of belief.

For his part, the Danish Foreign Minister expressed his country's condemnation of this act, stressing that the Danish government strongly rejects such anti-Islamic acts, and that it does not support or condone in any way the anti-Islamic views expressed by the person concerned during this incident, reiterating the commitment of the Danish government with the protection of the Iraqi embassy in Copenhagen./ End
