The Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibas Al-Saadawi, today, Saturday, praised the work of the air traffic controllers at Basra International Airport, for their quick response and handling of the emergency landing of a Qatari plane coming from Ireland to Doha. A statement by the Ministry's media office said, "Today, Saturday, Basra International Airport witnessed the emergency landing of a Qatar Airways Boeing 787-8, carrying 270 passengers coming from Dublin and heading to Doha." The statement explained, "The plane's crew was forced to land at the airport after they felt a smell indicating the possibility of burning on board the plane. All passengers were disembarked safely and taken to the waiting lounge inside the airport," noting that "the Minister of Transport praised the work of the air traffic controllers at the airport for their efforts and keenness to ensure the safety of travelers and provide them with quick alternatives.' The statement continued, "The Director General of the Airports and Air Na vigation Department, Abbas Al-Baidhani, expressed his thanks to the emergency crews and all workers at the airport, and in the Southern Approach Control Unit and the Southern Area Control Unit for their quick and professional response in dealing with this event," noting that "this incident highlights the importance of readiness and preparedness for such emergency situations, in order to ensure the safety and security of travelers at Iraqi airports.'
