The number of detainees in the West Bank has risen to 8,855 since October 7

Ramallah - Ma'an - The number of detainees in the West Bank has risen to 8,855 since last October 7, Saturday, after the Israeli army arrested 15 Palestinian citizens. The Prisoners' Affairs Authority and the Prisoners' Club said in a joint statement, "The total number of arrests after October 7 amounted to more than 8,855." The authority and the club stated that 'the Israeli occupation forces arrested at least 15 citizens from the West Bank on Friday and Saturday, including former prisoners.' During the arrest operations, the army carried out 'attacks and threats against detainees and their families, and vandalized and destroyed citizens' homes,' according to the two institutions. In parallel with the devastating war on Gaza that began on October 7, 2023, settlers escalated their attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank, and the Israeli army expanded its operations there, which led in total to the killing of 518 Palestinians and the injury of about 5,000, according to official Palestinian data. Thi s comes as the Israeli war on Gaza left more than 116,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly. Israel continues this war, ignoring a Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, and orders from the International Court of Justice to take immediate measures to prevent acts of 'genocide' and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the most recent of which was the order to immediately stop military operations in Rafah yesterday, Friday.
