The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received, at his residence in the Bahraini capital, Manama, the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, and his accompanying delegation, on the sidelines of the Arab Summit Conference at its thirty-third regular session in Bahrain. During the meeting, according to a presidential statement, they discussed the current situation in the Palestinian territories and the barbaric aggression against the Palestinian people and the human tragedy it caused. The President of the Republic affirmed Iraq's firm position towards the Palestinian issue, stressing the necessity of stopping the war and immediate access to humanitarian aid to the People of the Gaza Strip. President Rashid pointed out: 'The situation in Palestine has now had repercussions on the entire region,' stressing the importance of strengthening joint action and supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people to achieve their full rights. The two presidents stressed that the Palestini an issue is at a crossroads today, which requires the international community and active forces to assume the highest levels of historical, political and humanitarian responsibility to work to find comprehensive and just solutions. For his part, President Abbas expressed the appreciation of Palestine, the government and people, for Iraq's historical positions of support for the Palestinian cause, praising Iraq's efforts and its permanent assistance to its Palestinian brothers.
