The Secretary-General of the UN thanks Iraq for the generous donation it made to UNRWA

Baghdad, The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed his thanks to the Government of Iraq for the generous donation it made to UNRWA. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement: 'The interim Chargé d'Affaires of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations in New York, Abbas Kadhim Obaid, met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and during the meeting, developments related to the Palestinian issue were discussed, and views were exchanged on the current situation and the necessary efforts to achieve stability in the region and the importance of implementing relevant United Nations resolutions, and reviewing the existing relationship between Iraq and the United Nations and its specialized agencies operating in Iraq.' Obaid pointed out: 'The donation that Iraq made to UNRWA is a fulfillment of its obligations towards alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people and the humanitarian catastrophe they are g oing through, and to enable UNRWA to continue implementing its mandate and facing its funding challenges in these circumstances.' Obaid expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the efforts made by the United Nations and international agencies in providing assistance and technical support to Iraq during the past two decades, reviewing "the developments and achievements made by the Iraqi government during this period and in various fields." For his part, Guterres expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude for the generous donation made by the Government of Iraq to UNRWA, describing it as an important step for humanitarian support, directing his greetings to the Prime Minister and his deputy Foreign Minister.
