Turkish President and European Commission Chief Engage in Dialogue on Regional Issues

Berlin: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern in a phone call on Tuesday with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. The two sides also discussed relations between Turkiye and the European Union.

According to Qatar News Agency, a statement issued by the Turkish presidency's communications directorate highlighted Erdogan's reaffirmation of Turkiye's commitment to maintaining the cease-fire and ensuring peace in the region, while stressing the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible.

Erdogan also mentioned that Turkiye's participation in initiatives related to European security strategies would be beneficial and emphasized the need to modernize the customs union agreement between Turkiye and the European Union.
