Abu dhabi: The United Arab Emirates defense systems have engaged multiple projectiles, the country's defense ministry has announced amid escalating regional tensions. A ministry statement on Tuesday said five ballistic missiles and 17 drones launched from Iran were successfully intercepted.

According to Qatar News Agency, the ministry added that since the start of what it described as "flagrant Iranian attacks", its air defenses have shot down a total of 357 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and 1,806 drones. Officials reported that the attacks have claimed the lives of two service members while on duty, as well as six civilians of various nationalities, including Pakistani, Nepalese, Bangladeshi, and Palestinian.

A further 161 people were injured, with wounds ranging from minor to severe, according to the statement. The ministry emphasized that the armed forces remain "fully prepared" to respond to any threats, pledging decisive action against attempts to undermine national security and stability while safeguarding the country's sovereignty and interests.
