The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced Sunday that its navy struck a rescue vessel of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the Crimean Peninsula and disabled it from service. In a statement, the ministry said the Ukrainian navy struck the rescue vessel Kommuna in the Crimean Peninsula. The statement added that the Russian navy was using the vessel to conduct operations in deep seas, including submarine recovery and salvage operations, and it was one of the oldest ships in service. Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, stated that the extent of damage inflicted on the ship, which currently can't perform its duties, was not immediately clear.
