UNRWA Announces Urgent Need for $275 Million to Continue its Operations in Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announced un urgent need for $275 million in order to continue its operations and humanitarian response in Gaza Strip.

UNRWA spokesperson Tamara Alrifai stated that the agency urgently needs $200 million to continue its operations until the end of the year, in addition to $75 million to be able to respond to the humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip.

UNRWA has been facing a severe funding shortage for 10 years, and had started this year with a $75 million debt. The agency launched an appeal at the beginning of the year to collect $1.6 billion for its programs, operations and emergency response in Syria, Lebanon and the occupied West Bank which includes East Jerusalem, Gaza Strip and Jordan.
