US President Among Over 300 Nobel Peace Prize Nominees

Oslo: Over 300 individuals and organizations have been nominated for the prestigious 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. The Norwegian Nobel Institute stated that the number of Nobel Peace Prize nominees has reached 338, comprising 244 individuals and 94 institutions. This marks a significant increase from the previous year’s 286 nominations, though it falls short of the record 376 nominations set in 2016.

According to Qatar News Agency, US Congressional Representative Darrell Issa announced in a post on X that he had nominated President Trump for the award. The nomination is supported by several political officials, who have highlighted Trump’s role in the Middle East as a contributing factor. Despite the prize committee’s practice of keeping the list of nominees secret, those eligible to nominate, including former winners, lawmakers, ministers, and certain university professors, may choose to reveal their nominations.

Analysts note that Trump has been a candidate in previous years, and his 2025 nomination is significant due to his stance on the Russia-Ukraine war and his efforts to alter his country’s foreign policy with European allies. Nobel Prize rules stipulate that the identity of nominees must be kept confidential for 50 years. Last year, the Nihon Hidankyo group of Japanese atomic bomb survivors received the prize for their work to ban nuclear weapons.
