Beirut: Israel continued its repeated assaults on Lebanon, targeting civilians in the south and in the Bekaa region in eastern Lebanon.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement issued today, the Lebanese army noted that the Israeli occupation army’s persistent aggression threatens Lebanon’s stability and adversely affects stability in the region, in direct contradiction to the ceasefire agreement.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese army’s units continue working to bring residents back to southern areas by clearing unexploded ordnance, removing debris, and reopening roads.
The army’s leadership is also monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures in coordination with the five-party committee overseeing the ceasefire agreement and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
It is worth noting that a ceasefire agreement in southern Lebanon went into effect on Nov. 27, requiring Israeli forces to withdraw from border villages and towns in southern Lebanon within 60 days. Subsequently, the Lebanese government agreed to extend the deadline until Feb. 18. Israeli forces then withdrew from all villages and towns, except for five locations in southern Lebanon.
