An official source in the US Senate said that a group of Chinese hackers were able to access tens of thousands of emails belonging to the US State Department.
The source revealed to Qatar News Agency that he attended an "orientation session" with officials in the information technology sector of the US State Department. Representatives were informed that about 60,000 emails had been hacked from 10 various accounts.
The source explained that most of the individuals affected by the attack were working in the East Asia and Pacific region, except for one person.
Last July, the White House announced that it had discovered Chinese hacker activities, and that the intrusion targeting US government accounts had been stopped.
