Cairo, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative, led Bahrain's delegation at the 22nd session of the Arab Conference of Heads of Punitive and Correctional Institutions in Egypt. During his speech at the conference, the Director General highlighted Bahrain's efforts to uphold human rights through the reforms and the comprehensive development process, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Some of the initiatives in this regard include the alternative sentencing and the open prisons programme, overseen by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which aims to provide beneficiaries with the opportunity to reintegrate into society. Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid commended the follow-up of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, on efforts to provide advanced services and innovative rehabilitation programmes, in line with the highest global standards. Speaking at the conference , Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid spoke on the law and objectives of the alternative sentencing programme, the first of its kind in the Arab region. He highlighted the advancement of the criminal justice, reform, and human rights systems. Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid discussed the expansion in applying the provisions of the alternative sanctions law, which includes the implementation of the open prisons programme that has earned the international accreditation from the American Correctional Association (ACA), as the first entity outside the United States to achieve this distinction.
