5.3-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Papua New Guinea

Port Moresby, An earthquake measuring 5.3 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Monday Papua New Guinea. The epicenter of the quake was 42 km from Panguna town, at a depth of 170.5 km, the US Geological Survey reported. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage caused by the earthquake so far. Papua New Guinea is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, where many volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur. This region includes 90 percent of the active volcanoes in the world.
