Sanya: The 6th Asian Beach Games are set to officially commence tomorrow in Sanya, Hainan Province, China. The event promises to be a grand spectacle featuring 1,790 athletes from 45 Asian National Olympic Committees. Competitions will span 14 sports, 15 disciplines, and 62 events, running until April 30. According to Qatar News Agency, the Asian Beach Games are organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and are one of six multi-sport events under its umbrella. These Games aim to promote beach sports, offer a competitive platform for athletes, support cultural exchange among participating nations, and uphold Olympic values. The unique coastal atmosphere of Sanya is expected to enhance the experience for both participants and spectators. The opening ceremony will take place at Yasha Park Theatre, showcasing a blend of Asian spirit, Chinese cultural elements, the allure of Hainan, and the coastal charm of Sanya. HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of the OCA, expressed confidence in Sanya's abil ity to host the Games successfully, noting that the city will provide an ideal environment for this edition. Qatar will be represented by a delegation of 34 athletes competing in seven sports. The nation has high expectations for its athletes, aiming for significant achievements and medal wins. Qatar's ongoing participation in the Asian Beach Games highlights its commitment to sports development, with notable achievements such as a gold medal in Handball from past editions. Qatar's success continued at previous Games, including a total of 12 medals at the Phuket 2014 edition and seven medals at the Da Nang 2016 edition. These accomplishments underscore the country's dedication to maintaining a strong presence in the Asian Beach Games.
