Qatar Tourism Chairman Plans to Bolster Hotel Sector with Tourism Events

Doha: HE Qatar Tourism Chairman Saad bin Ali Al Kharji announced that Qatar is focusing on supporting its economic sectors, with particular emphasis on tourism, by developing plans to align tourism events to bolster the hotel industry. During a meeting with a delegation from the Qatar Hotels Association, led by HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al-Thani, Al Kharji highlighted the importance of collaboration between government and private sectors to enhance Qatar's reputation as a reliable global tourism hub.

According to Qatar News Agency, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al-Thani stressed the critical need for public-private partnerships to tackle challenges within the tourism and hospitality sectors under current regional circumstances. He acknowledged government support as a stabilizing force that bolsters the private sector's role in economic development and aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030. Sheikh Faisal called for strengthened coordination to foster sector growth.

He noted the significance of the partnership between the Qatar Hotels Association and Qatar Tourism. The creation of a joint committee marks a positive move towards better coordination and enters a new cooperation phase to develop tourism and hospitality in line with visitor expectations.

Qatar Hotels Association Second Vice Chairman Omar Hussein Al Fardan emphasized tourism's role as a national economic pillar. He advocated for reinforced collaboration with Qatar Tourism and the development of a strategic plan to achieve the country's tourism objectives. Al Fardan commended Qatar Tourism's efforts in sector support through promotional campaigns, event development, and partnerships with Qatar Airways to boost transit tourism.

The meeting, according to Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Fahd Al-Thani, Secretary-General of the Association, provided a platform to address key sector challenges. He indicated that these challenges would be relayed to Qatar Tourism for coordination with government entities to identify solutions, enhancing institutional cooperation between hotels and official bodies.

The Qatar Hotels Association presented an analytical review of the regional and Gulf tourism landscape during the meeting, assessing the impact of current conditions on the hotel sector and actions taken by neighboring countries. Practical proposals were made to alleviate operational burdens and aid sector recovery, aiming to restore tourist confidence and leverage Qatar's competitive edge in the global travel market.
