Qatar Commits $1 Billion to Palestinian Aid at AHLC Meeting

Brussels: The State of Qatar participated in the ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee for Coordination of International Aid to the Palestinian People (AHLC), held in Brussels, Belgium. The State of Qatar was represented by HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad.

According to Qatar News Agency, in her speech, Her Excellency expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Norway and the European Union for their ongoing support for the Palestinian people. She highlighted Qatar's role, alongside Egypt, the USA, and Turkiye, in establishing a 20-point peace plan, later adopted by the UN Security Council under Resolution 2803.

Her Excellency announced Qatar's pledge of USD 1 billion to support the Peace Council's work. This contribution aims to assist in reaching a final settlement for an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The minister emphasized the importance of transparency in fund allocation, ensuring contributions are directed toward specific projects subject to monitoring and evaluation. She stressed that support must align with international law and involve local communities for effective project planning.

Her Excellency identified infrastructure reconstruction, healthcare strengthening, and educational programs as key areas of interest for AHLC members, promoting long-term development and community resilience. She encouraged an integrated approach combining humanitarian relief with sustainable development.

The international community's support for the Palestinian Authority, including emergency budgetary assistance, is crucial, she noted. Donors can help avert political and social collapse by providing financial aid and enhancing institutional capacities.

Collaboration with groups like the Palestine Donors Group (PDG) ensures alignment with the Palestinian Authority's reform program. The AHLC's role in promoting dialogue, governance best practices, and collaborative projects is vital for state-building and stability.

HE Minister of International Cooperation reiterated Qatar's commitment to supporting the AHLC and international partners to address the urgent needs of the Palestinian people, which is essential for achieving peace and security.
